Synopsis:

Berlin, 1945, the Red Army topples the last Nazi bastions in the German capital. Many people are taken prisoner. They include Heinz Linge, Adolf Hitler’s butler, and Otto Günsche, his aide de camp. These two men were some of Hitler’s most loyal staff and had lived alongside him since the late 1930s until his suicide in 1945. They were able to observe the Fuhrer on a daily basis and got to know him intimately over this period.

Hearing that the two men had been arrested, Stalin, who had always been fascinated by Hitler, saw the opportunity of discovering his sworn enemy’s secrets and gaining a better understanding of his personality and the reasons that led him to take both military and political decisions. Stalin therefore ordered the NKVD to relentlessly interrogate the two prisoners in a painstaking and exhaustive fashion. Linge and Günsche were interrogated for several years in Soviet prisons. In 1949, their accounts enabled an ultra-confidential report to be written, a single copy of which was produced for the personal attention of Stalin. The report aimed to shed light on Hitler’s personality, acts and psychological profile.

Jean-Charles Deniau and Stéphane Khémis’ documentary reveals a key historical document, which was kept completely secret until the fall of communism. The documentary uses previously unseen archive footage, interviews with historians and reconstructions to tell the tale of the interrogation of the two Nazis by the lieutenant colonel of the Soviet secret services, Fiodor Karpovitch Parparov. Parparov focused on all the aspects of Hitler’s life during the interrogation: his military strategy, political calculations, the secret meetings he attended and his reading matter, close relationships, odd habits, phobias, eating habits and sexuality. His investigation led to a surprising profile of Adolf Hitler, observed in each and every detail.
